Honouring Michael Jackson
Thursday, June 25, 2009: I will always remember the day Michael Jackson died. I was working with a fellow designer on a belt for the This Is It Tour and was scheduled for a fitting on that fateful day. BET contacted me to recreate his iconic pieces for their show on Sunday. Things went into full swing at 2:30 pm.
Friday, June 26, 2009: The zipper jacket is being created. The Remember the Time gold pieces are being constructed.
Saturday, June 27, 2009: The zipper jacket is done. The Remember the time outfit is being cut out.
Sunday, June 28, 2009: BET Award Show – live-television, LA Coliseum. The sequin socks are being finished, and the gold-lamé body suit is being constructed. Jamie Foxx’s suit gets altered minutes before he goes on-stage with Janet Jackson.
I recreated of the infamous zipper jacket, The Remember The Time video costume, the Billy Jean sequin slouch socks and tailoring a suit for host, Jamie Foxx. I made all these pieces in 3 days. It was exhausting, it was exhilarating, it was an honour.
